Take Time Out

To Help a Family In Cumberland, Overton, or Putnam County
Become A Volunteer Parent Aide with the Friends For Families Program

Volunteers are matched with one family in their community to:
• Provide emotional support
• Help parents learn to communicate with their children
• Help parents learn to discipline without anger
• Be positive role models to parents

Volunteers are provided with an initial nine-hour training.

Volunteers meet for a monthly support group to receive information, professional supervision, and to share about their volunteer experience.

Volunteers have access to 24-hour staff support.

Volunteers are honored annually at The Stephens Center’s Child Abuse Prevention Banquet.

* The Center also needs volunteers to provide child-care during our parenting classes.

Your purchase of the "Children First" specialty license plate will fund child abuse prevention services in Tennessee including The Stephens Center.

Blue Ribbon Memorial Tree Project

During April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month, The Stephens Center raises community awareness of child abuse through the Blue Ribbon Memorial Tree Project. In April of 2007, 3,584 blue ribbons were tied on trees on the Courthouse Squares in Putnam, Overton, Cumberland, Jackson, and White Counties. Each ribbon represented a child reported as abused in 2006 in these counties. With great celebration we announce that this was 433 fewer ribbons than in April of 2006! Our challenge to every resident of our communities is to help us reduce the number of ribbons tied on the trees in April, 2008. To become involved, contact, The Stephens Center.
